    Singletrail Action

At the southern foot of the Simplon Pass lies the village of Varzo with the Valle Cairasca – a little gem in terms of singletrails! The round trip combines some of the most fun trails and integrates the chairlift from San Domenico up to Alpe Ciamporino. The route is perfectly feasible from Brig with the short train ride through the Simplon tunnel.

The train station in Varzo is the starting point of the tour up into the Valle Cairasca. Varzo can be reached by train from Brig through the Simplon tunnel in just 19 minutes. From Varzo there is a pleasant asphalt climb to the Tasquera church, which is visible from afar. After the church, the road climbs again for a short distance until the trail into the Valle Cairasca begins just above the village. This supertrail leads in a slight up and down through the steep western flank of Monte Teggiole and is a very attractive connection to Ponte Campo at the very back of Valle Cairasca. From here, the trail continues on an asphalt road up to San Domenico, where you change to the chairlift and take the 470 metres altitude difference up to Alpe Ciamporino. Now the second part of the tour is on the agenda – the extremely fun and varied return trip back to Varzo. Here you follow the path to Alp Moiera, which is slightly descending through the steep terrain. After Moiera you have to unpack all your riding skills for a short stretch. The first part of the trail is steep and with serpentines, but later it becomes faster and smoother. Between Torba and Maulone, the trail is a first class fun, then you roll downhill a little on the ascent route and then turn right into the brilliant trail ending in Varzo. Conclusion at Varzo station: the route is a real highlight in the otherwise rather rough area of Domodossola.

Note: The chairlift in San Domenico is in operation from early June to early September (sandobikepark.com). Those who start the tour outside the operating hours of the chairlift, can either ride up to Alpe Ciamporino under their own power or take the path from the village exit over to Torba and thus return to the original route.
