    Description

The Tornantissima has become one of the most famous slopes of northern Italy. The name says it all: a breath-taking curve leads slightly under Monte Varadega on countless switchbacks into the valley.

The superlative „Tornantissima“ fully lives up to its name on this tour. Starting from Grosio, ride until a short ways after the highway underpass, where you will turn right onto the asphalt road. The climb to Passo del Mortirolo meanders almost endlessly through the western flank of Monte Varadega. Beautiful views extending down toward Grosio and Grosotto compensate for the hardships. Once at the top of the pass the asphalt road goes on the left - follow it further into the Valle di Varadega. At the far end of the valley, turn left onto the rough gravel road and ride up to the ridge, where one of the first single trails awaits. This leads up to 2500 metres above sea level. Here we go down, and steeply! And soon it becomes clear why the name of this tour ends with a superlative. At first very technical and difficult to travel along, the trail leads into the forest. Endless switchbacks and steep sloping sites will make your disc brakes glow, not to mention your forearms. Everything is demanded from the rider and his bike, and probably quite a few will have to take a little breather. Because it is not every day that you pedal down from 2500 metres to 800 metres above sea level.

Note: In the lower part exactly follow the suggested route. The signposted version leads at the end over a jerky Roman runway although a little above in an old singletrack could be inflected.
