    Description

The Maderaner valley is a little-known highlight of the canton of Uri. The steep valley sides offer bikers few options, but the valley does contain exquisite routes that make it possible to experience the beauty of the Maderaner valley by mountain bike.

From Amsteg you follow mountain bike route 412 (Maderanertal Bike) up the valley and then turn onto a section of singletrail to the Maderaner valley. The mountain path will then lead you to Bristen. The signposted route continues through the forest on the northern side of the Maderaner valley, from where you pass by the Stäfeli alp to reach the small town of Stössi and, a little further on, Balmenschachen. Now climb up to Balmenegg, the highest point of the tour. Start the return trip, which is initially on a single-track trail on the valley floor, then stay along the Chärstelenbach brook away from the valley. One track veers right immediately before the village of Bristen, which will take you past the Frentschberg mountain to the clearing in the forest at Fryetall. The reason for this final climb is the single-track trail descent that leads from here to Dörfli. Cycle back to Amsteg on the main road.

Alternative: Less experienced Biker take the Road to Amsteg instead the trail via Frentschenberg.
