    Description
    Col Vessonaz (Aosta)
    Description

From Col Vessonaz an extraordinarily long singletrail leads down to Valpelline. The route is a highlight away from the well-known Aosta routes.

The ascent starts on this tour in the small village of Lignan, about 1100 metres above the valley floor of the Aosta Valley. The ideal way to get here is by shuttle. We start on a small road, where we turn left a little after the observatory and reach the alpage of Chaleby on a gravel road. The road climbs undiminished up to alpage of Champanement, where the route changes into a singletrail. Now the bike has to be carried a little more than 200 metres up to Col de Vessonaz. The view from up here reaches as far as Mont Blanc. But more interesting is the upcoming downhill trail. This leads for kilometres through the Comba Vessonaz into the Valpelline valley. First steep and slippery, then more and more flowy. But at the latest at the forest line it becomes a jester. Near the village of Condemine you always stay on the left side of the valley and follow the trail to the bridge at Vernosse. Continue on the left side of the valley, but climb up a bit on a gravel road until the final trail to Montcorvé begins in Verdignolettaz. Done – now it's time to ride back to Aosta. Instead you follow the mostly flat Ru Pompillard, which starts a little below Valpelline after a short ascent. In former times, the path was also continuous above Valpelline, but has been damaged for some years and is not passable. Follow this gravel road to Aosta, where just above the village there are a few last singletrails.
