    Description
    Bella Tola
    Description

The Bella Tola high above St-Luc is one of 3000 peaks in the Valais which are also worth tackling on your bike. Once you hit the summit, you‘re in for a 2500 metre downhill to Sierre.

Normally, you start the ascent to Bella Tola from the Tingousa mountain station on the St-Luc funicular. Take an alpine road with a pleasant incline past the Cabane Bella Tola and continue climbing. The road gets steeper and steeper until you have to begin pushing below Pass de Boeuf. The pushing continues on the single track that follows, taking you up the steep climb to the summit of the Bella Tola. By this point, most people are carrying their bikes on their shoulders. The ascent is worth the panorama from the summit, but the real highlight is the extraordinarily long descent to Sierre. This begins with a challenging first few metres, but then becomes more flowy with every passing metre. It winds its way down to the lane you first ascended on, which will take you back to Cabane Bella Tola. This is were the second part of the descent starts, on a wonderful singletrail to Chandolin, difficult only for the first few meters, then flowy as it makes its way through the forest. To get to the third part of the descent, you first have to go back up a bit in Chandolin, then roll down a gravel road until a trail heads off straight ahead at a left-handed serpentine. Again, the first few metres are difficult, then are followed by a flat path before starting the long descent down to Sierre. This is considered one of the region‘s great mountain bike routes. 1300 vertical metres of trail overlap this path, followed by a serpentine trail that requires good cornering technique, although many of the serpentines can be ridden without trial skills. The trail ends at the Sierre motorway exit, with the cycling path rolling over to the Sierre rail station.
