    Ru Courtod
    Description

The path along Ru Courtod, with its 12 kilometres, is one of the longest along the typical water pipes in the Aosta Valley. It can be combined to an excellent, technically moderate singletrail tour through the whole Valle d'Ayas.

Let's start the extraordinary tour to Ru Courtod in the village Extrepieraz near Brusson in the Valle d'Ayas. The first part of the tour leads up to Corbet on the main road and from here always parallel to the road on gravel roads, singletrails or side roads to Frachey. Once again the route follows the main road a short distance to Saint-Jacques-des-Allemands, then on occasionally steep gravel roads past Alp Gavine to Ru Courtod. Ru Courtod is a 600-year-old water pipeline that carries glacier water from the very back of Valle d'Ayas to the southern flanks of the Aosta Valley – and always next to it a singletrail. This is followed for 12 kilometres until the water pipe at a small power station falls a few metres into the depth. A singletrail leads down the steep mountain flank, then the water pipe disappears under the gravel road. This leads imposingly through a total of 13 tunnels through the rocky eastern flank of Monte Zerbion – a very special experience! As soon as the path becomes flatter, you reach the trail branching off to the left back to Extrepieraz – a fast and fun ending. If you want to extend the tour, follow the gravel road to the Col de Joux instead of the trail to Extrepieraz and from there the 1300 metres descent down to Verrès (see tour: Testa Comagna, Webcode 1575). Return to Extrepieraz from Verrès, ideally by shuttle or public bus.
