    Description
    Pointe Chaligne (Aosta)
    Description

The 2000 metres altitude Pointe de Chaligne, directly above Aosta, is home to one of the region›s most exciting and flowing single trail descents. The tour is a must for mountain bikers with an Aosta base.

Ideally, you start the tour with a shuttle ride to Thouraz and save yourself 1000 metres of asphalt ascent.  After Thouraz on the southern flank of the Pointe de Chalinge high above Aosta a mountain road leads up. Then the climb turns into a gravel road that leads to the Tsa de Metz. Up to the summit, there are now still 350 metres, on which the bike must be mainly pushed. The effort is worthwhile, however, the following descent over the northern ridge is first class. In an intermediate piece, it is very technical, otherwise the path leads super flowing to the gravel road, on which one again ascends a bit up to the Tsa de Chaligne. A last short walk (100 meres in altitude) is needed to reach the small plateau for trail start. It follows a bomb of a descent! For this, one follows the trail with the number 2B. This leads fluidly, fast but never boring through the larch forest. Above Ronc Parme you ride downhill for a while on a gravel road, then turn sharply left into the forest after a right-hand serpentine and head down a flow highway to the Ru Neuf. This trail is flat above Arpuilles. On some bumpy single trails, go from here directly into the historic centre of Aosta.

    Alternatives:

    • Instead of ascending to the Tsa de Chaligne, follow the trail downhill to the Rifugio Chaligne, fortify yourself and get on a short ascent behind the inn in the downhill trail.
    • The tour is often started in Mendey below the Rifugio Chaligne because many shuttles go up here. If you drive to Thouraz, you will benefit from an additional 100 meters of altitude difference and a sunny ascent - especially in autumn.
