    Description

The Pointe de Bellevue is enthroned high above the Rhone valley at the entrance to the Val d'Illiez and impresses with a crisp and sometimes somewhat adventurous, 1600 meter long singletrail descent to Monthey.

The ascent from Monthey to the foot of the Pointe de Bellevue is arduous because it feels endless, but leads almost continuously on well constructed gravel roads. It is also possible to shorten this first section by train to Troistorrent and then by post bus to Morgins. In this way the tour is shortened by 850 meters of ascent. This shortened version is worth considering, especially since the ascent from Morgins is still quite a challenge. This leads on a small road up to Pâturage de Chanso and then on a singletrail up to the top of Pointe de Bellevue. The bike has to be pushed here. The summit captivates with its wonderful view over the Dents du Midi, before the crisp descent begins. The first part is fast and flowy down to the Portes de Culet, then follows the rough singletrail into the Combe de Dreveneuse. The following long singletrail descent through the steep terrain down into the Rhone valley is spectacular and varied. Narrow switchbacks alternate with fast passages, and in a few places the bike has to be pushed a few meters to be able to turn through the forest again in a fun way. Seemingly endless downhill this way. The further down you get, the more flowy the path becomes. In this style the descent leads to the first houses of Muraz, a suburb of Monthey. It is only a stone's throw back to the starting point at Monthey station. All in all, a tour for those who like exceptional and less frequented descents with a shot of adventure.

Note: From the Pointe de Bellevue there would be a direct way down to the Combe de Dreveneuse. However, this is not ridable and the bike has to be pushed down almost continuously.
