    Description

The Poignon Tour is one of the singletrail classics right on the outskirts of Aosta. 900 metres in altitude you fight your way up the mountain ridge over Villeneuve, then rush on a world-class descent to the other side of the valley.

The Poignon Tour is usually started in Villeuneuve just up the valley from Aosta. Here you climb up the country lane to Champlong, leave the village behind and change to a steep gravel road at the edge of the forest. This winds up the mountain 550 metres. And who then thinks that the climb has been made on the hill, has missed the second small climb after a short descent. At the forest clearing Petit Poignon, however, the ascent is finally done, and it goes into the left branching singletrail – a flowing firework! In places, the path is quite steep, but consistently good to ride. It ends at the historic viaduct in Pondel. You then stay on the left side of the valley, climb again a bit up to the small tunnel, and behind it begins the second part of the descent. An often dust-dry little path leads through the steep terrain, a cautious riding style is advised here, and finally the descent at the bridge to Aymavilles comes to an end. Back to Villeneuve, it is now a matter of course, the city centre of Aosta, it is also not far.
