From Cogne, the ascent is initially comfortable. The little road to Champlong is quite flat and an ideal warm-up track. But then things get serious: at the village entrance, turn off to the left onto the lane which quickly climbs through a series of many serpentines. The road soon turns to gravel, climbs for long distances past Alp Tzavanis, until on a plateau you head eft over the stream and then much steeper through the southern flanks under the Passo dell‘Ivergneux. Follow the right-hand serpentine of the singletrail up to the pass. Very good riders can handle this almost entirely on their bikes, but many will have to push long distances. The last few metres before the pass will have everyone carrying their bikes. Then you are at the start of the Banzai Trail. This leads quite flat through the wonderful plateau. Not a house can be seen, only pristine nature and the singletrail. This path is one of the best single tracks in the Aosta valley! It is super flowy, only becoming challenging after Alp Grauson. It then becomes super fun over to Gimillan, where the fast final stretch awaits. Finally, you reach Cogne again and everyone will agree: the Banzai Trail is one of the best in the Alps when it comes to mountain biking.
