    Monte San Primo

The Monte San Primo via Bellagio offers perhaps the most beautiful view of all over Lake Como and can be reached easily by mountainbike. The ascent on little roads may take some time, but the return trip is defined by a wealth of different singletrails.

The route from Bellagio to Monte San Primo is long and takes you on major and minor roads for 26 kilometres. You then climb up to Magreglio, and cycle back down a good way to be on a level with Lasnigo, from where you head up to Colma di Sormano on a little road, going via Sormano. This is where the mountainbike part of the tour begins. You follow a little alpine road to the Alpe Spessola, where the road becomes more uneven and eroded. You can, however, get up to almost 100 metres below the summit. The last section has to be tackled on foot. Ideally, you would leave your bike in the basin, because going down the way you have come up is quite an unattractive prospect. But it's well worth going up to the top, because there is barely a summit on Lake Como with such a fantastic view. The descent then takes you across the ridge to the basin at Alpe di Terra Biotta. Here, you turn left and follow a singletrail down to Parco San Primo. The forest section in particular is great fun. Now you cycle in a westerly direction along a small gravel road and end by climbing a few more metres on a concrete path. On the ridge, the path becomes another singletrail which is great to ride on as far as the Cascina Roccolo. The next trail  starts below Rovenzola, and you keep on it until  you reach Guggiate near Bellagio. It is alternately smooth and bumpy, sometimes narrow and sometimes a two-metre-wide gravel track. The tour ends on the promenade at Bellagio.
