    Description

The famous mountainbike tour over the Maighels Pass is considered one of the «oldest» and most famous routes in Switzerland, but it still requires some solid riding skills.

From Andermatt, ride along the road to the Oberalp Pass or take the Matterhorn-Gotthard train for this stretch. Immediately after the pass, ride for a few metres on a fast singletrail until it turns to the right towards Val Maighels. The trail is rideable, but there’s a risk of falling in some spots. Finally, you’ll climb the gravel road to Maighels hut, where ideally a lunch break is in order. The remaining 200 metres to the Maighelspass will enchant you with the wonderful landscape, but it’s difficult and sometimes too steep to ride. This also applies to the subsequent descent. The trail is rough and rocky and requires being clever in riding your bike. If you take it too fast, you run the risk of puncturing a tyre. As difficult as the upper part of the descent is, the second section is smooth. On the gravel road, glide back down through Unteralptal, then slightly above Mur-Alp turn off onto a singletrail that leads down to Andermatt.

    Tips:
    • Instead of the singletrail from Oberalp Pass to Val Maighels, th Alp road via Milez can also be taken.
    • To get to the Oberalp Pass, take the gondola from Andermatt to Gütsch and then ride to Lutersee. From here, a challenging singletrail leads down to the Oberalp Pass.
