    Description
    Stausee Linth-Limmeren (Kistenpass)
    Description

The Kistenpass is the link between Brigels in the Bündner Oberland and Linthal in the canton of Glarus. The high alpine tour in the midst of a magnificent rocky backdrop is a highlight for good mountainbiking technicians. In particular, the descent from the Muttseeehütte to the Linth-Limmeren lake and through the tunnel further down to Linthal is a special experience.

The starting point of the ascent to Kistenpass is the top station of the chairlift in Brigels. On an asphalt road you quickly gain height until the route changes into a singletrail at Alp Quader. The entire ascent to the Kistenpass is an alternation of pushing, carrying and riding sections. The ascent route is well developed and ends in the high alpine rock world of the Kistenpass. On the following section up to the Kistenpass hut you have to push again, and immediately after the hut the well passable path leads through a steep passage secured by chains. There is no need to ride here, but the section is easy on foot. Then follows the singletrail fireworks. A path including a counter ascent leads to the Muttseehütte and from there steeply down to the Linth-Limmeren lake. This section is challenging but a stunning experience. It leads through rock passages and meadow bands, surrounded by the magnificent mountain scenery, and far below lies the blue reservoir. Afterwards, you roll through a tunnel more than three kilometres long and tackle the last section at the top station of the cable car. The trail down to Linthal is varied, with a short passage secured with chains in the upper section, then fun but challenging through the forest down to the valley floor. For the final transfer to the Linthal train station you should ideally take the road. The return journey to Brigels is a bit strenuous: it is by train and at the end by post bus and takes over three hours.

Tip: It is advisable to start the tour in Chur, in the morning by post bus to Brigels, and then at the end from Linthal by train back to Chur
