    Description

The Gottardo Bike Route is one of the most attractive routes for mountain biking in Switzerland. It takes you from Andermatt to Biasca through the heart of Switzerland and has a high number of single tracks.

The tour begins with the historical ascent from Andermatt, or rather Hospental, to the Gotthard Pass. Follow the main road primarily but take the shortcut along the track next to the road and follow the old, historic road for the last few metres. The ascent to Gotthard Pass is not yet over; it carries on via a small road to Pass Scimfuss. A high track leads further into the Val Canaria, past Orello and on to Airolo. The descent mainly follows alpine roads; however there are numerous alternative routes on single tracks. Start the ascent to Ritomsee from Airolo, a small road leads to the dam. Now the track changes to an alpine road and climbs high to the Cadagno hut and later becomes a very steep path up to the Passo dell‘Uomo. A rougher dirt track leads from here down to the Lukmanier Pass, where the real downhill fun starts. Here, you can leave the official route for a few metres and follow a single track along the main road. Climb a few metres to start the descent from the Campo Solario. After a plateau, leave the main road via a signposted route, head through the tunnel and then immediately branch to the left down the historic path towards Campra. You will now find yourself back on the official route which you can follow to Olivone. This section is very technical and demanding at times. From Olivone, follow the official route through Bleniotal. This is a nice alternative to the main road.
