    Description

The Eiger Trail is one of Switzerland›s best-known and most impressive trails. But mountain bikers are not welcome here. At off-peak times, outside the high season and with cautious and thoughtful behaviour, this path is a trove of superlatives for mountain bikers.

Although a train runs up the Kleine Scheidegg, riders must complete the whole ascent under their own steam, as bikes are not allowed on the cog railway. You can reach the Scheidegg on the signposted mountain bike route, passing the Brandegg, or take a little road up to the Männlichen mountain station. This variant is only recommended in the off-season because the following section to Kleine Scheidegg is very popular with hikers. You have not yet earned your descent of the Eiger trail. From the Kleine Scheidegg a steep cart track leads 260 vertical meters up to the Eiger glacier station, where the cog railway disappears into the tunnel on its way to the Jungfraujoch. This is the start of the Eiger trail descent. It is very important to attack this route only at off-peak times and during the low season, otherwise unpleasant arguments with hikers, who are not always pleased to see mountain bikers, are guaranteed. The best time is in the evening, when the Eiger›s north face blushes in the evening light. The Eiger trail leads directly along this world-famous rock wall - a spectacle without equal. From Alpiglen, follow the signposted downhill route all the way to Grindelwald.

Alternativen: Ascend from Grindelwald along the Mountainbike-Route to the Kleinen Scheidegg

Tip: The departure in the summer late in the evening driving in low sun. Then all hikers are already at home and the Eiger North Face shows in a particularly beautiful light
