    Description
    Blinnenhorn
    Description

The Blinnenhorn is one of the magical peaks of the Goms – and from the Italian side it can even be reached by mountainbike. The view from the summit is stunning, but you have to earn it with a hard act of strength of the harder kind.

The start in the direction of Blinnenhorn is comfortable. From the Griessee turnoff below the Nufenenpass, a small road leads up to the windmills at the Griessee and then on a wonderfully flowing path over to the Griespass and down to the bottom of the Valle del Gries. Now it's time to get down to business: The bike lies on your shoulders until you reach the Rifugio Città di Busto, then a short passage until you have to carry the bike again below the Lago del Sabbione. The hard part of the ascent is the part from the Rifugio Claudio e Bruno up to the summit: steep and slippery. But the ascent to the summit is worthwhile for two reasons. First: the panorama of the summit. This is one of the best that the Upper Valais can offer. From Mont Blanc, Weisshorn and Dom to the entire Bernese Alps, one beauty follows another. Second: the downhill run. Although it is very difficult, it is a treat for very good riding technicians. The further down you go, the more flowy the path becomes. Below the dam wall of Lago Sabbione you have to push a little bit to get back to the Rifugio Città di Busto. Instead of going down to the valley floor on the ascent route, one now climbs up to the Bättelmatt Pass – the starting point of the supertrail down to the Gries Pass. Back at the wind turbines, you take the trail down into the Ägene Valley and follow the marked route down to Ulrichen. Conclusion: The tour is a highlight for very well trained mountainbikers with an above average riding technique.

    Notes

    • For the ascent to the starting point you take the post bus from Ulrichen to the Nufenenpass and descend on the pass road to the Griessee turnoff.
    • The Blinnenhorn is very popular with (Italian) hikers. Especially between Lago del Sabbione and the summit you can expect a lot of pedestrians..
    • On the road between the Griessee turnoff and the wind turbines there is a danger of falling rocks. The passage is at your own risk. Especially in wet weather conditions, the tour should be avoided because of this section.
