    Description

Alongside the Weissenstein, the Balmberg is a favourite destination for Solothurn mountain bikers – this spot offers many first-class single tracks.

From the Solothurn railway station, the marked mountain bike route (number 44) leads up to the Balmberg. Forrest and rural lanes lead to an altitude of more than 600 meters. On the hill, the official route turns left. We recommend riding a few meters more on the street and then turning left onto a single track. This is a very fun path that leads through the Schofbach ravine to Welschenrohr. At this point, the route leads back along the first chain of the Jura mountains. Via Solmatt, you will reach the path to Schmidematt, where the path turns right toward Hochchrüz. This small pass is the beginning point of the long descent back to Solothurn. A mix of single tracks and forest lanes leads to Günsberg. From there (for lack of single-track options) follow the forest and rural lanes via Hubersdorf to Aareufer bei Flumenthal. After the dam, the path proceeds onto a bridge to the left bank and leads directly to the Solothurn railway station.

Alternatives: From the Schmidematt follow the road to Passhöche, then along the ridge over the Bättlerchuchi to Hochchrüz on the original route.
