    Description
    Col du Sanetsch
    Description

The Arpelistock, high above the Col du Sanetsch, is one of the 3000 metre summits in the Alps that can be ridden by mountainbike. The hard ascent with a shouldered bike is rewarded by the 2700 vertical metre singletrail descent to Sion.

The start of the tour is on the Col du Sanetsch, which can be reached by post bus. The way to the summit leads over the prominent mountain ridge in a mix of pushing, carrying and cycling sections. From a height of about 2800 metres above sea level, you carry the bike on your shoulders all the way to the summit (3036 metres above sea level). The last metres in particular are high alpine terrain and require a good footing. The summit with a view of the glaciers of the Diablerets and above all on the collective Valais Alps, including Mont Blanc is fantastic. The following descent is initially very technical, a few metres are needed on foot then the trail becomes really fun and leads through the barren scree landscape. A highlight is cycling over the ridge down to the Col de Sanetsch later. Then you steer on fast freight roads and curvy singletrails down to Grand Zour and reach the road to the Col de Sanetsch. From here on it’s fun on the suonen trails. The route leads along almost flat water pipes over to the region of Daillon, where a final cycling stretch into the gorge of the Morge awaits. Along the river you reach Conthey and roll south back to Sion.

Tip: There is also the possibility to enter the Col du Sanetsch the night before and to spend the night in the attractively situated Hotel du Sanetsch.
